My Mom'S Crumb Cake

- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. allspice
- 2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. soda

1. Sift together flour, salt, cinnamon and allspice.
2. Stir in brown sugar.
3. Mix shortening in with dough blender until coarse meal.
4. Reserve 1/2 cup mixture for topping.
5. Stir in buttermilk, vanilla and soda (mix soda with a little warm water in measuring cup that buttermilk was in).
6. Spread in a greased 9 x 13-inch pan; sprinkle with reserved topping on top and also sprinkle on cinnamon.
7. Bake at 375° for 20 to 25 minutes.
